Botanical Gardens

Saturday Adam had the day off so we all went to the Western Colorado Botanical Gardens. Although it is just down the street from us, Saturday's trip to the gardens was our first. There they have a butterfly house with two rooms full of tropical plants. The first room had a couple of turtles, a toad, and a pond full of fish. Some of the interesting plants were orchids, a tangerine tree, several tall bamboo trees, and many other plants which all had huge leaves. As someone who loves to take pictures, I was in heaven! I brought my camera and my new camcorder and took as many pictures and videos as I could. The kids loved the fish in the water and tried smelling the flowers along the path. In the second room were the butterflies. There weren't many butterflies yet, but they had just released nine Orange Julius butterflies which were absolutely beautiful. There were more interesting plants and flowers in the second room as well. Two of my favorites were the Indonesian Evergreen and the Hibiscus flowers. Both were very colorful. As for the outside gardens, they haven't been planted yet this Spring so we will have to go back and see it when there are more butterflies and more gardens. Next to the gardens is another building and outside there is a fun little area for the kids to play. It has a castle with a mini-maze, a giant, a dragon (with slide), and a sandbox. The kids didn't want to leave. This was our first official outing as a family since we had Jaxton. (See more picts on the blog entry below this one.)
