Almost Baby Time!

Well, we are getting closer to baby time!

Tuesday we had a little scare as I started to have really hard contractions. They weren't painful or consistent enough to time just intense. And I was getting them often enough. Since I already had a scheduled doctors appointment, I decided to wait and see what she said before I went to the hospital. After listening to my symptoms and having an ultrasound she sent me to the hospital to be monitored for awhile. I continued to have contractions. Since I am only at 33weeks we didn't want the contractions to lead to labor. They gave me a shot to relax my uterus and then watched me some more. After six hours they decided that the contractions weren't putting me in labor and they let me go. Although, now I am on a modified bed rest which basically means I have to take it as easy as possible. They knew I had other children to take care of so they couldn't put me on complete bed rest, but I think they would have. We were both lucky that Adam had his days off this weeks so he was around to help out and watch the kids. Today he had to go back to work, but he knows that he is on call, just in case.

I am happy to report that since Tuesday I have been feeling a lot better and haven't had many contractions. The ones I have had are not nearly as hard or as often as the ones I had on Tuesday. I am quite tired most of the time, but I don't expect that will change for awhile even after the baby comes. As for the baby, his is just fine. His heart rate is strong and he continues to be very active. He is measuring a week ahead of schedule at around 5lbs 1 oz. Our goal is to keep him inside for at least another two to three weeks so he will be strong and healthy when he is born. At this point it is just a waiting game to see what will happen next.

Since Tuesday, my visiting teacher has heard about my ordeal. She is also in the Primary Presidency where I serve as a CTR 5 teacher and today has relieved me of teaching. So, now I don't have to stress about teaching. I am grateful, yet I wasn't ready for that to happen for another few weeks at least, so I wasn't totally ready to turn over the manual when she came by. My focus is now on getting through the next few weeks and focusing on the baby coming and preparing my other kids on what is going to happen soon.

I will keep updating as much as I can. Soon enough I will have a post all about our new son so watch for that to come.

Cold Air, Toys, and Diaper Rash Cream

Well, we have made it through another week. It is amazing how time flies so fast! Already, we are half-way through January. It seems like we just welcomed in the new year. Although, it has been much colder in Grand Junction this week the sun has managed to shine a bit. We have actually had a couple nights with negative temperatures. And our days have been right around twenty degrees. Just before it turned really cold we had one really nice day (nearly fifty degrees) where I let the kids go out and play in the snow. They loved it since they hadn't played outside since we were in Vernal.

This week I decided that something had to be done with the wandering toys in the house. It seems like every time I turn around another toy has escaped the kids' bedrooms. After much pondering, I decided that we would try something new for awhile, so I moved Austin's bed into the bedroom with his sisters. All the toys went into Austin's room, so now we have a sleeping room and a playroom. Also, I have a new rule that if I find toys outside of the playroom they will disappear into the depths of the garage. Of course, I give the kids a couple warnings first to rescue their wayward toys before that happens. So far, the room switch has been a success. The toys have pretty much stayed in their new room and the kids don't seem to mind all sleeping in the same room. Although, I need to put some boyish wall stickers above Austin's bed because he is getting too attached to the princesses that the girls already had on the wall. The other night he pointed to the Princess Auora sticker on the wall and said "My Princess." Yep, I getting some car or train stickers.
We are still in the first week of this change, so we will see if it continues to go work out.

Now for the more exciting story of the week. The other night Adam and I were having a nice quiet evening. The girls were asleep. Austin was still awake because his nap ran late, anyway, it wasn't long before I noticed that Austin had a white paste smeared all over his face. At first I thought he had found some lotion, but soon realized that it was actually diaper rash cream. Normally, the cream is put up, but since I have been watching my neighbor's little girl this month we had her cream down with her diapers. Austin found it and used it like lotion. I think all of my kids have tried using the cream as lotion and I would imagine that other children have too. Makayla tried it when she was about Austin's age and smeared it all over her arms, legs, and face. It was quite the mess then! For those of you who are mothers know that often times diaper rash cream won't come off easily. Thankfully, Austin's came off with a couple baby wipes. Another time the kids smeared diaper rash cream all over the couch. It did not come off as easily even after washing the cushion covers several times in the washer. But what else can you do? The kids obviously had fun and the couch will never, ever have a diaper rash.

Snow Day

The day after Christmas we went to visit my family in Vernal, Ut for a few days. While it was really fun and enjoyable to visit my family, the weather was very, very, cold! The below zero temperatures, however, didn't keep the kids from wanting to play in the snow. The kids had a lot of fun climbing the hill of snow (my siblings created) and making snow angles. We didn't have any sleds, but they managed 'Chill-Out" in the snow without them. Oh, one of the joys of being a kid!

Christmas Day 2007

Christmas Day 2007

I hope everyone had a fun holiday. I thought that I would write a little story about what happened Christmas morning at our house. In Adam's family it is tradition to have wrapping paper taped across the hallway so that the kids can't see their presents before Mom and Dad are awake. We have decided to carry on the tradition with this year being the second year that we have done it. This year Austin was so eager to see what Santa had left, that once we gave the okay he wasted no time and just crawled under the paper. Leaving his sisters to rip through while he had first reign of what Santa left. It took the girls about another two minutes to actually rip get through. It was Classic! Austin went for the candy in his stocking first. Kelsea looked at all the little things Santa left before seeing the baby dolls that went with them. Makayla emptied her stocking to find a couple oranges. She was so excited to see the oranges that she failed to see that Santa had left her three brand new Barbies. If Santa had only known oranges and Smarties was all they wanted... As a whole the day went well. It was a little bit hard for me because not only was it the first year I wasn't spending time with my family (parents, siblings, grandparents, cousins), I also was in charge of cooking Christmas dinner which I have never done before. I chose a ham and my new Crockpot did a great job cooking it. Everything turned out well and Christmas ended-up being quite peaceful. I even was able to squeeze in a nap. Adam enjoyed the meal, played his computer, and also got a nap. We had made it through another Christmas. Then it was time to go to Grandma's...

Welcome!

Hello! I have decided to start a blog this year to make it easier my family and friends to keep-up with what is going on with our family. I think it might be fun and maybe inspire some of you to also do the same thing. I have a couple friends who have blogs and quite enjoy reading what they are up to. I don't know how often I will be able to post new messages, so be patient and check back often. With that said I guess it is time to post this first message.
