Austin's Finger

This afternoon, just about ten minutes before the kids and I were about to leave town to go to Vernal, Austin started screaming. He was outside playing and somehow he managed to smash his pinky finger under a rock. (He got it stuck between a rock and a hard place.) Anyway, his finger swelled to about three or four times it normal size and I decided that it was probably broke. So, I took him to the ER and they x-rayed it and it is broken. On the up side Austin and I was able to spend some one-on-one time while waiting. We played with the two little toys that the nurse gave him. I know that the ER isn't the ideal place to spend some fun time with your child, but it was fun and it kept him busy. You wouldn't have even known that his finger even hurt him. Even now it doesn't act like it bothers him. After x-rays, they put his finger in a splint and wrapped his hand, so now he can only use one hand for awhile. We are still planning on going to Vernal tomorrow.

His poor swollen finger

It is really hard to see, but he has a Y shaped fracture that is really close to the joint. We will know more after the orthopeditc doctor looks at it.

This is the rock he smashed his finger under by the way
(I have no idea where this rock came from. I think the kids found it while riding their bikes today.)

Saw on facebook that you were updating your blog, so I thought I'd check it out. It's so fun to see pictures and read stories about your family. Poor Austin...sounds like he was a great sport though, attitude makes all the difference. It's so fun to be back in touch, the internet is amazing, huh? We have a log too it's audrijo.blogspot.com It's not nearly as exciting though cause we don't have cute kids to write about yet, but in the mean time you can see a little more about what we're up to :)
